Liana 14.0: UI Rework, Smaller Dust Limit... and Liana Business

Liana v14 brings a refreshed interface with a reworked home page, menu, and sidebar, lowers the dust output limit to 500 sats for easier onboarding, and introduces a series of UX and security improvements. We also share an update on Liana Business.

We’re excited to announce the release of Liana v14, a version focused on making Liana easier to use and more polished, with improvements that touch everything from the visual interface to low-level spending behaviour.

This release introduces the first part of an ongoing UI rework, a meaningful change to the dust output limit, and a set of UX and security improvements that make daily usage smoother and safer. A large part of our recent development effort has also gone into Liana Business, our infrastructure and coordination layer for collaborative Bitcoin custody setups. More on that below 👇

🎨 UI Rework: A Cleaner, More Consistent Interface

One of the most visible changes in v14 is the redesign of the main interface. We’ve reworked the home page, the menu, the payment history, panel titles, and the sidebar. The menu width is now fixed and menu entries have been renamed for clarity and consistency.

The goal was simple: reduce visual noise, make navigation more intuitive, and lay the groundwork for a more polished Liana experience going forward.

This is the first part of an ongoing effort. Further UX and UI improvements are already in the pipeline and will be rolled out in the coming versions, so expect the interface to keep evolving.

🪙 Dust Limit Lowered to 500 Sats

We’ve changed the default dust output limit from 5,000 sats to 500 sats.

This change has a practical impact especially for new users: when first testing Liana, it’s common to send small amounts to verify the wallet is working correctly. With the previous 5,000 sat threshold, these test transactions could get “stuck”. The new 500 sat limit brings Liana much closer to Bitcoin’s network-level dust threshold and aligns with current market price considerations.

If you’ve ever hit a wall trying to consolidate small UTXOs or send a modest test amount, this fix is for you.

🔧 Other Notable Improvements

Beyond the headline features, v14 includes several smaller additions that improve the day-to-day experience, such as:

Coldcard ccxp file support. You can now import an xpub directly from a Coldcard .ccxp file, streamlining the setup flow for Coldcard users and reducing the need for manual copy-paste steps.

Export encrypted descriptor from Settings. The Settings → Import/Export section now includes an option to export the encrypted descriptor (.bed file), alongside improved wording for all export buttons. This makes it easier to back up your descriptor in case you didn’t do it during the setup phase.

PSBT must be saved before export. When exporting a PSBT, Liana now requires you to save it first. This small safeguard prevents a potential address reuse scenario that could arise from exporting an unsaved transaction draft.

Truncation of amounts with more than 8 decimals. Bitcoin amounts are capped at 8 decimal places. If a value with more decimals is entered, Liana now truncates it with an explicit message, instead of throwing an error.

Wording and UI consistency fixes. A number of small inconsistencies in labels, button text, and messages across the interface have been cleaned up, making the overall experience more coherent.

🏢 Liana Business: Coordination Infrastructure for Teams

Even if it’s not related to v14, it’s worth mentioning that a significant part of our development effort in this cycle has been dedicated to Liana Business, which is released under a separate tag in the same repository.

Liana Business extends the principles of Liana, secure self-custody with recovery options, to organizations and teams that need to manage bitcoin collectively. It adds infrastructure for transaction coordination (drafting, reviewing, and signing PSBTs across multiple participants), shared labels for coins and payments, email notifications for relevant wallet events, seamless syncing across participants, and access to a web dashboard for monitoring and coordination.

If your company holds bitcoin, Liana Business is designed to make the process significantly safer and smoother without introducing any trusted third party into the custody model.
